About Me?
I’d like to think it’s about me but really it’s about the light. Sometimes it’s the moment the very bottom edge of the sun caresses the cool blue Pacific ocean at the end of the day or the glint in the eye of a seabird on its mission to find food. At other times it’s what we call the “mercury effect” of the light dancing on the water’s surface unknowingly adding balance to the icy stare of a tiger shark. Many times it’s the light from one of my strobes illuminating a “critter” on the seafloor. These moments are both magical and emotional for me. I get lost in the often difficult attempt of trying to capture this beautiful convergence of light and time. More often than not these opportunities are fleeting, and then they’re gone. Later when I process the images in Lightroom there’s that “Aha!” moment when I realize how lucky I am to have witnessed and been able to capture that convergence!
Welcome to Bioluminant Media. It’s the home of my view into natural history. Through the media of photography and video I am able to present to you the moments when the light was right and it all came together. Have a nice visit!
I’m often asked what’s in the camera bag as if that will make a difference in the ultimate quality of the images. To satisfy some folks curiosity I shoot the Canon 1DxMkII and the Canon 5D MkIV with various Canon glass. When I take them underwater I use Nauticam housings, Inon strobes and Keldan video lights.
I’ve had the pleasure and benefit of working with some real pros along the way including working with the BBC on Blue Planet II. A good photographer is always learning!
As a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer I enjoy teaching the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer certification.
